Dengan hormat,

Bersama ini ijinkan saya berbagi sedikit pandangan dan tulisan mengenai Geospatial Magazine and Geospatial Forum. Munculnya ide untuk kembali menulis terkait Geospasial dari sudut pandang penulis sendiri yang notabene hanyalah sesosok yang bersyukur atas nikmat dan kesempatan untuk bergabung di sebuah dunia terkait GeoInformation Science dan mendapatkan kesempatan berlangganan sebuah Majalah Geospasial dari GISDevelopment.

Langganan tersebut tadinya hanya berlaku selama setahun setelah mengikuti Seminar Map World Forum, 10-13 Februari 2009 di Hyderabad, India (http://mapworldforum.org/2009/conference/EmergingTrendsandTechnology.htm), akan tetapi ketika GISDevelopment memberikan penawaran untuk berlangganan seterusnya secara free maka saya pun segera mendaftarkan dirinya untuk bisa berlangganan.

Sebuah kenangan yang sangat indah dan perjalanan yang luar biasa dan tak henti-hentinya ketika mengingat akan perjalanan tersebut, ucapan Terima Kasih sebesar-besarnya kepada Yayasan TAHIJA, PDM, PM, TL DMU, dan kawan-kawan semua di Dengue Project Tahija Foundation Phase 2 Yogyakarta. serta Warga Kota Jogja. Berkat perjalanan bersama merekalah, sebuah kisah indah terangkai dalam buku perjalanan hidup yang masih membekas hingga sekarang. Apapun dibalik itu semua dan yang terjadi sesudahnya ialah sebuah rangkaian kehidupan yang memang harus dilalui dan diyakini bahwa semua ada hikmahnya.

Kembali ke topik yang diangkat kali ini yakni Majalah Geospasial dan Forum Geospasial, awalnya saya hendak mengupas dengan studi komparasi antara India dan Indonesia, namun sangat ditakutkan bahwa yang terjadi ialah penilaian picik dari diri saya pribadi. Hal ini bangkit, ketika melihat cover dari Majalah GISDevelopment June 2010 Volume 14 Issue 06 (Gambar 1) yang baru saya terima dengan tema yang menantang : "WANTED Data policy to unlock potential" dengan simbol gembok yang terbuka dan di dalam gembok tersebut ada huruf i kecil dimana titik kecil di atas huruf i merupakan gambar bumi. Berlatar belakang garis-garis yang tidak beraturan berwarna hitam dan di bawahnya ada promosi mengenai "Geospatial World Forum" dengan tema Dimensions and Directions of Geospatial Industry, 18-21 January 2011 Hyderabad, India.

Perubahan nama dari Map World Forum menjadi Geospatial World Forum, bukanlah tanpa suatu sebab. Saat pertama kali mendapatkan imel mengenai perubahan nama tersebut (Map World Forum is now Geospatial World Forum), sebenarnya thole hendak menulisnya di blogspot ini, tapi belum kesampaian. Oleh karena itu, di dalam kesempatan di sebuah sepucuk surat yang ditujukan kepada para penggiat Geospatial di Indonesia ini. Kurang lebih berikut alasannya ialah terminologi Geospatial, Geomatika, GISains, Geoinformasi merupakan beberapa terminologi yang sudah diadopsi oleh para profesional, organisasi dan lain sebagainya.

Geoinformatics, GIScience, Geomatics, Geospatial….. are a few terms for geographical information science. In recent times many organizations and professionals have adopted and accepted the usage of ‘Geospatial’ as an all encompassing terminology. In order to maintain our pace with the changing world we are glad to adopt this term to re-brand our conference. Pursuing our earlier objectives and recognizing our expanding role, we are pleased to announce that - the very successful ’Map World Forum’ is being renamed as ‘Geospatial World Forum’ so as to expand the scope and reach of the technology and also to provide a complete definition to this ever growing industry. We will continue to put together our endeavors to develop awareness campaigns, advocacy programs and business development platforms for geospatial world through our conference.

Hasrat yang memuncak pun menyebabkan majalah tersebut di foto, sekedar ingin menunjukkan kepada yang dituju bahwa ini loch, ada majalah geospasial dari negeri sono, bagaimana dengan nagari kita? Apakah saya yang tidak tahu-menahu? Ya sudahlah...demikian salah satu lirik lagu yang sempat terdengar...

Yang selanjutnya, ketika di dunia ini ada Geospatial World Forum yang digagas oleh teman-teman penggiat Geospasial dari negeri seberang? Bagaimana dengan Geospasial di nagari kita? Memang sudah begitu banyak Forum, Seminar, Organisasi, Perkumpulan baik dari kalangan akademisi, peneliti, LSM lokal, internasional, pribadi, perusahaan dan lain sebagainya. Akan tetapi pernahkah kita duduk sejenak bersama-sama dalam suasana untuk Indonesia Tercinta dan kemajuan Masyarakat, bukan semata-mata egoisme mengejar angka-angka karena telah melakukan penelitian, ataupu mengejar yang dikejar sudah barangtentu. Saya pun tidak menutup mata, bahwa saya sendiri masih perlu banyak dan terus belajar dari semua pihak.

Sebenarnya sangatlah indah dan menarik apabila tiap jengkal perkembangan informasi dan teknologi geospasial yang terjadi di Nagari kita ini bisa terdokumentasikan dan disajikan secara elok dan tak lupa untuk tunjukkan pada dunia bahwa Majalah Geospasial Indonesia, bukan sekedar majalah tapi merupakan penyelesaian Masalah kebumian yang bermanfaat hingga masyarakat desa. Jadi teringat, dulu ada A masuk desa...mungkinkah adanya Geospasial Masuk Desa ? Jawab thole: mungkin dan pasti...buktinya saja beberapa waktu lalu ada salah satu desa di Pulau Jawa, Indonesia tertarik untuk melakukan pemetaan wilayah desanya atas inisiatif salah satu warga desanya. Di lain sisi, banyak lembaga non-pemerintah yang mencari dana dari pihak-pihak asing, dan biasanya ada orang asing nya juga melakukan pemetaan hingga level desa untuk sebuah perencaan kekotaan. Ehmmm...dan pastinya kita tidak bisa seenak kita sendiri menilai satu hal dari satu sudut pandang, karena begitu banyak sudut di dunia geospasial Indonesia seperti suku bangsa yang begitu beranekaragam budayanya.

Bhinneka Tunggal Ika...itulah yang mesti kita pegang jika hendak mengembangkan Geospasial Magasin dan Forum Geospasial.

MERDEKA !!! MERDEKA GEOSPASIAL FORUM DI INDONESIA !!!

SAATNYA TUNJUKKAN PADA DUNIA...

SUKSES UNTUK BERBAGAI ACARA GEOSPASIAL FORUM YANG TELAH DISELENGGARAKAN MAUPUN YANG AKAN DISELENGGARAKAN...SEMOGA BERMANFAAT BAGI PERKEMBANGAN DUNIA GEOSPASIAL DI INDONESIA...

Mari kembali lagi, ke laptop atau PC masing-masing, India, Malaysia, berbicara mengenai perkembangan industri geospasial di negaranya, bagaimana dengan perkembangan industri geospasial di nagari kita? Indonesia sudah pasti bicara mengenai Geospasial, terlebih didukung oleh saudara-saudara sekalian...Salam dan Sukses...

*Maaf tulisan kali ini tidak memuat unsur yang menarik dibaca terkait pembelajaran geospasial, (*sedikit menyerempet) tidak ada maksud dan tujuan apapun, namun yang pasti tulisan kali ini ialah suatu upaya untuk membangkitkan gairah si penulis sendiri untuk bisa menulis ilmiah nantinya. Postingan ke-200 mencoba menulis mumpung ada kesempatan, walaupun awalnya bukan seperti ini yang dikehendaki, tapi itulah yang terlintas...

My name is Aji Putra Perdana, right now i am just an ordinary person that still interest to study more and learn in my daily life as geospatial learning person. Graduated from Faculty of Geography Gadjah Mada University majoring Cartographic and Remote Sensing at 2006. Helped the GIS Laboratory until 2008 and join with Combating Dengue Fever Project from January 2008 until June 2009.

Aji is still looking the way that what Aji really wanna be by learn day by day on geospatially thinking. So he created an imagination main actors, THOLE and CAKEP to make the stories become easy to share and with free of words that can be combined without any limitation.

Thanks to Allah SWT, my family and the support of Foundation also Dengue Jogja Team, so i can also learn more and more about geospatial learning from others country. Thanks also for the lecturers or educational staff members of Faculty of Geography for the Geospatial Learning.

Today, after eat for Sahur, i was so excited when i read the Global Geospatial Magazine. It's inspired me to write something that i would like to start it with "try to seeks and learn together with THOLE and CAKEP about what is Geographic Information Science?"

Thole : " I would like to share a little bit about Geographic Information Science (GISc or GISci) according informations that i have read and learn based on my own opinion also. At the first time, i just heard GIS not GISc or GISci, it was a System only, because GIS is stand for Geographic Information System. But when the times go on, geospatial information and technoloy become more and more important and be part of our daily life. GIS people's start think and says that GIS not only a system, but it's become Science. In the Faculty of Geography-Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia there is field of study "Geographic Information Science and Regional Development. Kang Cakep, can you help me ?"

Cakep : "Yes, thole...you're right, maybe we can share each other. According to Goodchild in Spatial Information Science and Geographical Information Science, also from Wilson and Fotheringham in The Handbook of Geographic Information Science. Geographic information science (GISc or GISci) is the academic theory behind the development, use, and application of geographic information systems (GIS). It is concerned with people, hardware, software, and geospatial data. GISc addresses fundamental issues raised by the use of GIS and related information technologies (Goodchild 1990, 1992; Wilson and Fotheringham 2007)."

Thole : "Kang Cakep, may I say that GISc is relevant to others or many scientific disciplines ?"

Cakep : "When i searching and googling, there are three central issues of GISc. They are the modifiable areal unit problem, complete spatial randomness and spatial autocorrelation. GISc is relevant to researchers from many scientific disciplines because these three central issues are often ignored in the application of statistical hypothesis testing. GISc argues that both Bayesian and Traditional statistical inference should consider spatial structure of the data being analyzed. You can see the picture below (Fig.2)."

Thole : "OK, i can see that. Can you help me to understand more and more regarding GISc ? What is the terminology of GISc (Geographic Information Science) ?"

Cakep : "The terminology of GISc (Geographic Information Science) is contestable because the definitions of the words depend on user preference. GISc is one of two main types of Information Science."

Thole : "I am very interest to learn about GISc (Geographic Information Science), because Kang Cakep always told me about Geospatial Learning."

Cakep : "Geographic refers to spatial dimensions, particularly but not necessarily on Earth's land. Science refers to inferences about natural law based on either classical statistical hypothesis testing or Bayesian statistics. Non-science is the writing of opinions without reference to analysis of measured data. Science and literature are two types of art, art is a type of culture, culture is a type of human thought."

Thole : "When i learn right now, GIS or GISc is closely related to Technology. What is Technology and why GISc is science and technology ?"

Cakep : "Technology is the use of machines to solve human problems. Non-technology is the beauty, the art, the emotional enjoyments that make animals feel joy, and the civilized culture that defines humanity apart from other animals. GISc is entangled with technology but distinctions can be made. Information Technology emphasizes the machines and the hardware. Whereas, Information Science is focused on how humans use information to understand nature (humanity being one small type of nature). Information Science emphasizes the logic, methods, software, the mental structures."

Thole : "Nice explanation Kang Cakep. How about Information and Data or Geographic Data ?"

Cakep : "Information is one type of human thought. Data is one type of information, particularly the archival of information for later use. Two basic types of information are spatial and temporal."

Thole : "Can you explain to me about type of data ?"

Cakep : "There are nine basic types of data: words, numbers, symbols, points, lines, areas, volumes, tones and rhythms. Vision and hearing are the primary information senses for which we archive data. For example a movie is a time series of images, images are made from pixels. Pixels are a type of point data, regularly spaced rather than irregularly spaced. So the data storage of a movie is a time series of regularly spaced points representing red, green, blue colors."

Thole : "And then...what is the main focus of GIS regarding types of data ?"

Cakep : "Geographic Information systems focus primarily on spatial data types: points, lines and areas, tied to a relational database. Much of what we think of as Information Science is actually Temporal Information Science, as opposed to Geographic Information Science. Of course space-time is one thing but it is very useful to separate space and time when we store data in computers."

Thole : "space and time...our palnet of earth can be beautifully spatiallized and become more important the way of information sharing. Geographic data, can you explain more ?"

Cakep :"Geographic data usually refers to the spatial database records tied with points, lines or areas. Geographic information is the result of an interpretation of both the world and of mapped data."

Thole : "I think, our world is very complex. Do we draw all the phenomena or features in the world ?"

Cakep : "As the real world is complex, choices over how the features of interest are described in the database, such as how the percentage canopy closure for a given forest results in alternative but equally valid interpretations of the same raw data. Thus, in the creation of informational representations from data, choices about how and what to map are made. It is important to recognize that information is socially constructed, as it depends on decisions and choices, themselves influenced by institutional and political contexts. Objective measurement of the empirical world is impossible to achieve without a subjective researcher and database designer. The entanglement of a subjective observer and the objective true world is the topic of phenomenology. People influence the information, the information influences people."

Thole : "Hmmmm....long explanation.. :) "

Cakep : "Because of these issues and many others, it is therefore useful to reflect on what it is we do with a GIS. Thus GISc is concerned with issues relating to representation, ontology, topology, error, and inconsistency. Uncertainty is introduced in almost every stage of the operation of a GIS, as there are subjective choices to be made. Users of GIS should try to bear in mind the political and social dimensions of using GIS and maps to represent "a truth" to an audience."

Thole : "Waow..Kang Cakep...you can explain it very well... :) "

Cakep : "Hehehe..because i have read it... :). Keep learn and study in our daily life. Geospatial thinking is our problem solving."

My (geospatial and capacity building) Learning in Combating Dengue Fever Project (1)

Pertama kali saya akan memulai menulis di blog ini ialah bingung untuk memulai darimana, karena sudah cukup lama saya tidak bercerita dengan bahasa sendiri. Banyak informasi yang saya sharing melalui blog ini ialah berita-berita ataupun informasi yang berasal dari situs atau blog lain, promosi kegiatan pelatihan SIG, Penginderaan Jauh, Pengolahan Citra Digital, cerita tentang skripsi saya, coretan-coretan iseng saya dan lain sebagainya. Tapi entah kenapa..tiba-tiba hari ini saat ini..beberapa menit yang lalu terdengar teriakan di dalam otak dan hati sanubari berkata :

"Hai Aji...(yang bukan Aji bukan Hai,,,hehe :) )...cobalah kau ceritakan perjalanan hijrahmu dari "KOTAK" hingga keluar "KOTAK", mungkin kini kamu berada di sebuah "LINGKARAN" atau "SEGITIGA".

Cerita berawal dari sebuah tes CPNS pada akhir tahun 2006 bertempat di Gedung Olahraga Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta...

Seusai tes, saya keluar dari tempat ujian dan sedang berdiri menunggu teman-teman dan saat itu datang mas K***n (sengaja tidak saya sebutkan..biar kelihatan seru euy..hehe). Beliau memberitahukan bahwa ada lowongan kerja sebagai asisten GIS di sebuah LSM yang bergerak di bidang Kesehatan dimana di LSM tersebut merupakan tempat kerja sahabat karib mas K***n yang juga sama-sama alumni Fakultas Geografi UGM yakni mas H***i. Mas K***n juga mengatakan bahwa dia juga udah memberitahukan lowongan ini ke teman saya T***r, kalau Aji tertarik kirimkan CV ke emailnya mas H***i.

Kala itu saya hanya tertarik untuk mengikuti tes-tes CPNS, akan tetapi setelah mengingat-ingat kembali perkataan mas K***n yang telah menginformasikan lowongan tersebut ke T***r. Tanpa saya konfimasi ulang ke T***r dengan asumsi bahwa T***r pasti akan mengirimkan CV ke mas H***i untuk melamar posisi di LSM tersebut, maka saya mengirimkan CV dan dokumen pendukung lainnya saya ke email mas H***i pada hari Jumat, 14 Desember 2007 at 7:02 PM.

Selang dua hari kemudian, hari minggu, 16 Desember 2007 11:15 PM saya menerima email dari mas H***i dengan subject : Info Test Wawancara Project Dengue 2. Email tersebut rupanya ditujukan kepada 4 kandidat yakni mbak i***n, mas h***i, saya sendiri ajiputrap dan mbak s**i, dimana mereka bertiga merupakan senior saya... (dalam hatiku..i'm the youngest). Terlampir di dalam email tersebut file word berisi gambaran singkat project dengue 2 dan tugas/tanggungjawab asisten data management unit serta kualifikasi yang dibutuhkan.

Komunikasi dengan mas h***i pun berlangsung via sms dimana beliau memberitahukan kapan waktu untuk wawancara...maaf euy, saya lupa kapan pastinya wawancara berlangsung...

Saya melihat sebuah Rumah Besar Sepi dengan sedikit kendaraan di dalamnya...Awalnya ragu untuk masuk ke dalam, dengan sedikit beranikan diri saya memasuki gerbang Rumah tersebut dan memarkir motor saya. Ketuk pintu dan dibukakan oleh seorang pemuda, lalu saya bilang mau bertemu dengan mas h***i untuk wawancara. Saya dipersilahkan duduk dan pemuda tadi mengambilkan segelas Teh Manis Hangat, tak lama kemudian mas h***i datang dan bilang : "tunggu sebentar ya Ji..nanti segera kita mulai wawancaranya". Lalu mas h***i memanggil dan saya dipersilahkan duduk kemudian diperkenalkan dengan pewawancara. Saat itu saya duduk menghadap dua orang yakni sesosok Ibu berambut pendek "Bu L** - begitu panggilannya" yang merupakan Pemimpin Proyek dan mas h***i sendiri. Wawancarapun berlangsung...di akhir wawancara dengan dua bos tersebut, datang seorang bos lagi yang tampak senior Pak D****k. Beliau menceritakan dan memberikan sebendel kertas yang berisi mengenai Yayasan Tahija dan proyek pengendalian demam berdarah yang dilakukan oleh Yayasan Tahija.

Waktu berlalu..hari demi hari kulalui,,,

Pada hari rabu tanggal 26 Desember 2007 11:33 AM, saya menerima email dari mas h***i yang memberitahukan bahwa saya lulus wawancara, kurang lebih emailnya berbunyi demikian:

Aji, berdasarkan test wawancara kemarin yang sudah dilakukan, Aji dinyatakan lulus dan dapat bergabung dengan project dengue 2 sebagai asisten data management unit. Kemungkinan Aji diharapkan dapat bergabung mulai tanggal 2 januari besok, nanti akan saya kabarkan lagi bila ada perkembangan berita lagi,
terima kasih

Saya resmi bergabung dengan Proyek Pengendalian Demam Berdarah Kota Yogyakarta Yayasan TAHIJA tertanggal 4 Januari 2008. Awal bergabung dengan proyek ini saya masih membantu kegiatan di kampus hingga bulan Februari 2008. Memori pertama kali saya bergabung dengan proyek ini perlahan mulai terkikis oleh waktu, sehingga apa yang terceritakan kemudian ialah apa-apa yang masih tersisa dalam memori otak saya.

Datang pertama ke kantor di bulan Januari 2008, saya duduk di kursi depan dan tak lama kemudian datang sosok yang tampak familiar. Ternyata dia adalah senior saya, yang dulu meng-OSPEK sewaktu saya pertama kali masuk kuliah euy,namanya mas h***m. Obrolan pun berlangsung dan ternyata kita berdua akan menjadi rekan satu tim. Kemudian bersama dengan mas h***i kita diperkenalkan ke team leader yang ada yakni Pak G***h - tim leader operasional, Pak D****k - tim leader Communication and Outreach, Proyek Manajer Bu L**, Finance Officer Bu K*****i, dan bagian admin & logistik mbak Y**a. Kemudian menuju ke ruang kerja dimana kita seruangan dengan mas H***i selaku tim leader kami dan mbak Y**a.

Hari demi hari dilalui..

Mencoba memahami job description, mengenal lebih dalam proyek pengendalian demam berdarah fase dua, lingkungan proyek, Yayasan Tahija, mempelajari pengelolaan data pada proyek sebelumnya (karena proyek yang sekarang merupakan kelanjutan dari pilot proyek percontohan fase satu pengendalian demam berdarah)...

Mengikuti berbagai diskusi, rapat serius hingga obrolan ringan, mendampingi bos2x dalam kegiatan untuk sosialisasi, menjadi juru foto, seksi perlengkapan, bongkarpasang spanduk, dan lain sebagainya. Kesemuanya itu merupakan pengalaman dan perjalanan yang luar biasa dalam dunia yang baru yang saya kenal ini..sebuah "LINGKARAN" atau juga "SEGITIGA" yang jelas berbeda dengan "KOTAK" dimana saya dulu berada...dinamika kehidupan lebih semakin terasa, interaksi dengan masyarakat benar-benar terasa..dari kaum muda hingga ibu bapak yang berusia senja namun berjiwa muda...

Berawal dari Januari 2008 hingga terasa sudah kini di bulan Mei 2009, waktu yang cukup lama bagi saya bertahan di dalam sebuah Proyek...

Map World Forum: A Global Confluence of Geospatial Thought

Largest congregation of geospatial professionals, experts and leaders to be held in Hyderabad from February 10 - 13, 2009 to discuss applications of geospatial technologies to create a Sustainable Planet Earth.

New Delhi, India, February 5, 2009 – More than 2000 global experts and users of geospatial technologies will gather together at Hyderabad International Convention Centre from February 10 - 13, 2009 to discuss, deliberate and evolve ways to create a Sustainable Planet Earth for the conference, Map World Forum. The conference is being organized by GIS Development, which is a leading geospatial media company based in Noida. The Forum promises to be a Global Congregation for thought and discussion between experts from various fields like Environment, Finance, Management, Technology and Governance with Geospatial specialists striving to make our planet a sustainable one. It aims to bring the geospatial community into limelight with regards to mainstream development organizations at a global level. Planet Earth has become susceptible to disasters since the past few decades because of various infrastructure development activities, which has resulted in immense strain on available natural resources. Keeping in view this background, the theme chosen for the Forum is “Geospatial Technologies for Sustainable Planet Earth”. The factors affecting the sustainability of Planet Earth are all interrelated and in order to combat them, we need to have a tool, which can associate and analyse them in a seamless manner. Geospatial technologies, because of their geospatial information dependent nature, provide the only way to look at these issues from a holistic viewpoint. Today, there exists a notable lack of geographic data and literature on observed changes, with marked scarcity in developing countries. The need of the hour is to build an exhaustive geospatial database that is going to serve as an enabling platform for the various stakeholders of this community. Map World Forum will strive to address this urgent need in order to safeguarded our beautiful planet for our future generations.

Founded in the year 2007, this is the second biennial conference, being organized under the patronage of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Kapil Sibal, Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences is the Patron of the conference. The conference will be formally opened by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Mohd Hamid Ansari on February 10, 2009. A host of other governmental agencies, like Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Department of Information Technology (DIT), which are providers of geospatial data as well as users of the data will be participating in the four-day event.

The Honorable Minister for Science and Technology & Earth Sciences, Government of India, Kapil Sibal states, “Government of India stands committed to create, update, manage and disseminate geospatial information and use it to the best possible manner to improve the quality of the life of its citizens and development of the nation. Keeping this in mind we organized 'Map World Forum' which brought the global leadership in geospatial sciences on one mega platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the geospatial science and technology growth and its role for human development in the next decade. Overwhelmed with the need and positive response of such a forum, Government of India is privileged to host the Second Map World Forum” Geospatial technologies have evolved tremendously since its genesis from simple 2D paper maps to 3D digital maps and web based tools that can now be used not only by experts for planning and decision making but by common man too for a variety of purposes. The applications of the technology has spread its wings right from disaster management and mitigation, defense and internal security to infrastructure management, planning and maintenance or locating your favourite restaurant in your locality. Now is the time when this core infrastructural tool can be used by more governmental agencies, planning authoritites and non-governmental bodies for analyzing the affect that developmental activities have on the environment. It is also the right time for the decision makers to use this essential guiding tool to evolve ways to save planet Earth from further damage.

During the Plenary Sessions of the conference, many experts from different backgrounds and focus areas will present their views and opinions on how geospatial technologies are being used or have the potential to solve the problems of the environment. In addition to the Plenary Sessions, the technical agenda of the conference will include a host of other activities from Panel Discussions, Symposiums, Seminars, Forums, Summit, and Technical Sessions. These sessions will cover the various aspects of map making like Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Cartography, 3D laser scanning to its application areas like Agriculture and Food Security, Infrastructure Development, Climate Change, Energy and many more. Map World Forum will also host a 3000 sq mtr exhibition area where 60 companies dealing with geospatial technologies will showcase the state-of-the-art equipments, software/hardware demos and the user segments will display the innovative usage they have put these latest maps to.

Sanjay Kumar, the Chief Executive Officer of GIS Development and Convenor of the Forum invites participation of delegates by stating, “Map World Forum will not just be a conference, it will be a Forum that will aim to Converge Ideas and Expand Horizons for Sustainable Planet Earth. It will aim beyond speeches and discussions to find practical ways to protect the Earth and improve people's lives. Its mission, therefore, will be to encourage the geospatial family and the society at large to function in ways that protect the Earth's natural environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of present and future generations. LATAR BELAKANG

Sejak tahun 1960-an, Informasi dan Teknologi Geospasial (ITG) telah mengalami perkembangan yang luar biasa, yaitu dari perangkat khusus untuk analisa hingga perangkat multiguna yang tidak hanya untuk analisa, tetapi bisa juga untuk penyimpanan, manajemen dan visualisasi data. Integrasi ITG yang kuat dengan media seperti Internet tidak hanya telah mengubah cara analisa informasi geografis tetapi juga fungsi dan cara hidup kita. Sekarang ini ITG telah mengembangkan sayapnya dan tersebar luas. Aplikasinya mencakup bidang pertahanan, pengelolaan sumber daya alam, pengelolaan sarana dan prasarana, untuk perencanaan darurat dan operasi bantuan, pemerintahan, pembangunan perkotaan dan sebagainya. Oleh karena itu, dalam perspektif menjaga popularitas ITG untuk berbagai aplikasi, dapat dikatakan bahwa ITG tidak hanya akan menjadi kekuatan bisnis kelak tapi juga akan menjadi motor penggerak usaha untuk ekonomi global pada dekade mendatang.

Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, GIS Development, sebagai organisasi media, telah berkomitmen sendiri untuk diseminasi informasi tentang ITG. Dalam konteks ini, GIS Development mengadakan Map World Forum. Map World Forum tidak hanya akan menjadi sebuah konferensi. Tetapi forum yang secara sederhana bertujuan untuk “Converge Ideas and Expand Horizons for Sustainable Planet Earth” ("Memusatkan Ide dan Memperluas Cakrawala untuk Kesinambungan Planet Bumi"). Oleh karena itu, Map World Forum, pada dasarnya dirancang untuk memfasilitasi para pemimpin dan pengambil kebijakan di industri geospasial dalam menghimpun kerjasama, pertukaran ide-ide, berbagi pengalaman dan pengetahuan, dan akhirnya untuk mengatur pergerakan roda perubahan kebijakan dan kelembagaan, yang pada akhirnya akan mendorong lingkungan hidup dan pembangunan sosial secara adil.

Konferensi Map World Forum ini diadakan pada tanggal 10-13 Februari 2009 di Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Hyderabad, India.

Pada pelaksanaan konferensi tersebut, Aji Putra Perdana berpartisipasi sebagai pembicara (speaker) pada kegiatan sesi oral presentation dengan judul “The Use of GIS (Geodatabase) in Combating Dengue Fever in Indonesia Phase II Project (Study Site: The City of Yogyakarta)” yang dipresentasikan pada Technical Sessions: Emerging application and technology trends. Pada sesi ini dipresentasikan berbagai tema mengenai trend teknologi dan aplikasi yang muncul di era perkembangan Informasi dan Teknologi Geospasial (ITG).
